ITINERARY: This is a special itinerary designed for the New Year holiday with return travel from Beijing. You can change your final destination if you prefer.

Return flights from Beijing to Irkutsk and four days in Siberia, with a New Year dinner, winter activities such as sleigh riding, dog sledging, ice-slides and snow snow snow! Perfect escape from Beijing with the family, or a group of friends.

You will have the first day (new year's eve) in a traditional Siberian countryside resort where there are a host of winter activities such as horse-riding, sleigh rides, ice-slides and for the less active, a traditional Russian sauna. You will have a typical Russian New Year's dinner and stay in simple wooden cottages.

On New Year's day after a relaxed and hearty breakfast we will travel to the shore of Lake Baikal where you will stay in a tradtional wooden homestay for the night. Although traditionally built, the building has modern amenities such as running water and hot showers! You will have an afternoon dog-sledging activity along the shore of Lake Baikal and in the Baikal National Park with a backdrop of a magical winter snowscape. Sooth aching muscles (or head) in a traditional Russian banya (steam sauna) before a family dinner.

Explore the lakeside village with a visit to the local church, museum or a hike (optional chairlift) to the lookout behind the village. For the brave you can take a dip in the icy waters of Lake Baikal which won't have frozen yet. Afternoon return transfer to Irkutsk and accommodation in a comfortable boutique hotel, once again built from Siberian wood. Free evening to explore Irkutsk dinner and nightlife options.

PRICE: Prices per person, from € 1,495, depending on final group numbers and flight price (*early booking is recommended). The group size is limited to eight people for dog-sledging limitations.

OUR SAY: A spectacular winter itinerary with the added bonus of the Epiphany ceremony on the 14th January departure. You will need Mongolian and Russian visas for this trip.

DATES: This special trip departs from Beijing on Wednesday 31st December and return flight to Beijing on Saturday 3rd January 2016. Alternative flight options are available. You can extend the trip with a two day train journey back to Beijing if yo have more time to enjoy the winter break.

Meet at Beijing International airport late night for the red-eye fl ight from Beijing to Irkutsk. Arrive Irkutsk at 08:50, meet your guide and transfer to Siberian lodge resort around one hour outside the city on the shore of the Angara river. Settle into the lodge and have a traditional Siberian lunch. Winter activities such as sleigh rides, cross-country skiing, skating, ice-slides, or ice swimming! Enjoy a typical Russian banya with birch leaves and tea. Prepare for the new year festivities with a traditional New Year gala dinner with typical Siberian food and drink, singing and dancing.
01 Jan 2016 Listvyanka | Dog Sledging | Homestay
Late breakfast and check-out of the resort. Drive to Listvyanka village on the shore of Lake Baikal where you will stay overnight in a traditional Siberian wooden homestay. The kitchen is in the middle of the building and the heart of the home. A wooden burning stove provides heat to all the rooms. Enjoy a welcome meal Russian style. After lunch you will have an active afternoon excursion and highlight of the day. Meet the Siberian huskies and prepare the sledges. The trip is through the forest and along the lake (over it if the ice is suffi ciently frozen). Return to the homestay for a relaxing and warming banya, simple dinner and overnight. 
02 Jan 2016 Listvyanka | Winter Activity | Irkutsk
Breakfast in the guesthouse. With a local trekking guide, you will have a brisk hiking excursion in the hills behind the village to the viewpoint overlooking Lake Baikal (optional chairlift). Return to the lake shore in time for lunch. The afternoon is at your leisure, you can rest in the homestay, walk along the lakeside or enjoy more winter activities such as cross-country skiing, snow-mobiling, hovercraft ride on the lake, try ice-cycling on a frozen Lake Baikal. Evening transfer to Irkutsk and overnight at the comfortable Marussia boutique hotel. The hotel is located in an area of carefully and thoughtfully re-developed wooden buildings, with pedestrian streets, shops and plenty of evening options for dinner and evening entertainment. A great place to watch the Irkutsk hipsters gather for the weekend entertainment.

Pass Ulaanbaatar early morning and travel through Mongolia to Chinese border with some impressive views of the Mongolian open steppe and Gobi Desert throughout the day.

Arrive in Beijing main station on Monday morning at 11:40; accommodation options.
