Start the journey in Beijing and stop four times on this trip on the way to Moscow. First off is a three day tour of the Gobi Desert and then the Nomadic grasslands of Mongolia. Travel onto Russia, staying in Listvyanka on the shore of Lake Baikal and then on the crossways of Asia and Europe in Ekaterinburg to explore the heart of the Ural Mountains and Nevyansk village. 21 (or 22) days, with options to extend the trip in Moscow and St Petersburg. Beijing Options
Arrive Beijing - you can either make your own accommodation arrangements or book from our brochure options. Allow yourself at least a few days to see the highlights including the Forbidden City and Great Wall.

DAY 1 Train, China
Depart Beijing by train #23 at 07:45. The train journey passes the mountains north of Beijing before heading into the plains of Inner Mongolia reaching the Chinese border in the evening.

DAY 2 Gobi Desert Ger, Sainshand Mongolia
After a night of border formalities an early arrival in Sainshand at 05:26. Meet guide and transfer to the ger resort. Have a rest and then visit the reconstructed Khamariin Khiid monastery, the nearby "small sandy dunes", the Gobi Saksaul forest and a camel breeding family. Overnight at ger resort and all meals are included.

DAY 3 Gobi Desert Ger, Sainshand Mongolia
Day trip to "Died Word" near the Khamariin Khiid monastery. Visit caves that the Lammas used for meditation, search for dinosaur fossils (skeletons and eggs) and see the petrified wood in the desert. Overnight at ger resort and all meals are included.

DAY 4 Gobi Desert, overnight train to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Free time at the ger resort with possibility of camel riding. Afternoon transfer to Sainshand to visit local museums. Evening departure on train #285 at 21:15 with your guide for the overnight trip to Ulaanbaatar.

DAY 5 Elstei Ger Resort, Mongolia
Arrive Ulaanbaatar at 08:00. Your guide will meet you at the station and give you an orientation sight-seeing tour around the city, including the Gandan Monastery, Zaishan Hill and Sukhebaatar Square. Transfer to Elstei Ger resort. Your guide will explain local customs and introduce you to traditional living in a Ger. Dinner. Overnight.

After breakfast your guide will be on hand to show you to local 'working' gers, tasting local food. Possibility of horse riding trips to the river and exploring the steppe. Lunch and dinner at the Ger resort. (Packed lunch can be arranged if away from the resort).

Breakfast before returning to Ulaanbaatar with free time and overnight at Bayangol Hotel.

A day to relax in Ulaanbaatar with sight seeing and shopping and Internet available. Transfer to Station for departure on train #263 at 18:40 reaching the Mongolian Russian border late in the evening.

After a morning at the Russian border continue your journey to Irkutsk via Ulan-Ude.

DAY 10 Homestay, Listvyanka Village, Lake Baikal
Arrive Irkutsk at 08:10. Transfer from the railway station to Listvyanka village at Lake Baikal by car. Acc. in a traditional Siberian wooden house. Guided walking around Listvyanka. Excursion to Limnological Museum. Lunch. Visit of the wooden Orthodox church. Russian sauna (banya). Dinner. Overnight.

DAY 11 Homestay, Listvyanka Village, Lake Baikal
After breakfast an activity day at Listvyanka. When booking choose 1 of the following:

- (CODE QB) Quad biking, A quad bike ride around the village and through the forest for 1 hour with an instructor. Lunch. Free time. Sauna (Banya). Dinner.
Overnight in Listvyanka.
- (CODE T) Trekking (Overnight): Hiking up the Primorsky mountains to the direction of Bolshye Koty village. After a few hours of lovely hiking you reach the camp-place on a sandy beach at Srednyaya Bay, where we set up a tent and cook dinner. Overnight. The distance covered on the first day 10 km. Dinner. Free time. Overnight tent.
DAY 12   Breakfast. Free time. Lunch. Trekking back to Listvyanka along the shore of Baikal. The distance covered on the second day is 10km. Transfer by car to Irkutsk. Accommodation with a family. Free time. Overnight in Irkutsk.
- (CODE ST) Soft Trekking: Day trekking through the forest with a guide. Picnic lunch. Return to the family. Sauna (banya). Dinner Overnight.
- (CODE D) Diving: Diving from the lake's shore in Listvyanka with a highly experienced instructor (CMAS and IDD). Those diving can experience fresh and cold water diving and see the real stark beauty of the underwater world of the Lake with its endemic sponge, fish, vertical rocky slopes with underwater grottos, old wooden-built mooring with an old bronze gun of 18-19th century. The divers have 1 dive. Lunch. Free time. Banya. Dinner. Overnight in Listvyanka.

On some dates an extra day is spent at Listvyanka (free time) so that the itinerary can fit in with an odd numbered date departure from Irkutsk.
