The minimum time we recommend in Ekaterinburg is at least two nights. Because of train schedules any less time does not leave sufficient time to warrant a stop, especially if you want to travel outside the City. We have a standard arrival package to book for the first night and have designed a range of day or overnight tours you can add on to your time in Ekaterinburg. Hotels
The Chekhov Hotel is our hotel of choice this season and included as default in our guided tours which include an overnight in Ekaterinburg. You can 'upgrade' to the Park Inn Hotel if you prefer.
The Chekhov Hotel is a new, small, privately run hotel which is perfectly located right in the down town near the Dendro park and the City’s circus.
There are only 14 bedrooms, all have private bathroom, TV, DVD, mini-bar, phone, air-conditioner, wi-fi internet access. Please note there is no lift in this small hotel.
There is a small cafe open for breakfast and providing coffee and pastries through the day.

This new small privately run hotel is perfectly located right in the centre of Ekaterinburg.
There are only 7 bedrooms, all have private bathroom, TV, DVD, mini-bar, phone. The restaurant is on the first floor, where breakfast is served.

Park Inn Double Room
The Park Inn (Rezidor SAS) is centrallly located, close to the Opera and Ballet theatre. The hotel has 160 comfortable, well appointed guestrooms.
All rooms have private bathroom, WiFi internet access, television, Individual climate control, Safe, Hairdryer.

Standard Program
The minimum 1st night program EKA-1 can be extended with additional programs, or with accommodation only. Prices are based on the Chekhov Hotel and include breakfast. An English speaking guide is included as standard, on request at the time of booking a German, French, Italian or Spanish speaking guide can be arranged.

Breakfast. Meet your driver and guide for a 15kms drive North-West into the Urals and the Monastery dedicated to the Romanov Tsar Family where bolsheviks tried to hide the Romanov’s corpses in a secret grave. This area is now a pilgrimage site featuring seven traditional Russian Orthodox wooden churches. Your informative guide will give you an informed history lesson to dispell some of the myths and intrique around this bloody episode of Russian history. Light lunch with tea and snacks, then drive 20kms to the main Obelisk marking the border between Asia and Europe, to straddle the border and celebrate! On route you will stop at other landmarks including the memorial devoted to the victims of the Gulag. Return to hotel. Free time and overnight. |

Meet your guide at the hotel after breakfast for a full day trip to the picturesque 300 year old Koptelovo village (145km), with a visit to a traditional Siberian 'izba'-house. Visit the Museum of Farming & Crafts with a Folklore song performance. Your lunch will be cooked in traditional Russian style. Tea party with samovar. A Troyka carriage horse-riding trip is included (by sledge during the winter). Drive back to the city, free time and overnight. |

| Extra Day | Meet your driver and guide for an 80km drive to the old town of Nevyansk, a cultural and historical area of the Urals, including the Demidov's Dynasty - well-known local factory owners. Visit to famous 'Nevyansk leaning tower', a recently restored Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral. Then on to Tavolgi Village for lunch and visit the Pottery craft centre, where you will have the chance to make your souvenir clay pot! Drive back to the City, free time and overnight. Total 8 hours trip. |
Active Summer Trips
These day trips take you in to the heart of the Ural Mountains, closer to nature and a good opportunity to stretch your legs after the long train journeys you've been on.
The following 4 'active' tours are available in the summer season only, June to September. They are designed to be additional days to the Standard Arrival Tour.

| Extra Day | If you like nature, but not interested in serious hiking, this tour is for you. After breakfast in Ekaterinburg you will be driven to the Ural Mountains. You will walk through the Middle Urals, across hills and through forests, passing rock outcrops and old quarries to a local village, traditionally built with wooden 'izba' houses and well maintained gardens, where will we stop for lunch. The total walk is 4 km. Return to your hotel, free time and overnight. |

| Extra Day | This hike in the Urals is the best way to explore the region, locally known as "The Stone Belt". After breakfast in your hotel, you will be driven to the Ural Mountains. During your hike you will see the picturesque area of the "Bazhovskie Mesta" Nature Park: taiga forest, old rocks, rivers, and ponds. Your guide will show how to survive in wild forest by finding local produce such as mushrooms & berries - a perfect addition to your picnic lunch!
You need to be moderately fit for this walk, the total trip approximately 10 km. |

| Extra Day | 8 hour trip to the Middle Urals, lunch included. After breakfast in your hotel, you will be driven (30kms) to the Ural Mountains. You will explore the Ural Mountains and take a trip on the Chusovaya river. Start off from the traditional Makarovo village with picturesque houses and well kept gardens where you will make a short walk to the Chusovaya river. Then you will have an 18km boat trip down the slow but beautiful river, which was used extensively by Russian pioneers as a main route. You need to be moderately fit for this trip. |
Summer Countryside Experience
A chance to spend a night outside of Ekaterinburg in the beautiful countryside of the rolling Ural mountains. This countryside experience will allow you to discover rural life & local traditions which are a far cry from city life in Russia these days.
A great variety of active trips and excursions are available, such as boat trips along the Chusovaya river, forest walks & hikes, cycling and fishing - to be paid locally. Banya (sauna) also available at ~ €7/hour.

Winter Trips
The Ural Mountains are a winter wonderland delight, with a range of activities for those of you that enjoy the great outdoors. Below you can find a selection of active and sports trips that allow you to enjoy the nature of the region while taking part in the traditional winter culture.
These 4 'active' tours are available in the winter season and only once the first heavy snow has fallen, generally from mid-November to mid-March. They are designed to be additional days to the Standard Arrival Tour.

| Extra Day |
After breakfast in your hotel, you will drive for around 1 hour south to the area of the lakes in beautiful surroundings. Your expert fishing guide will teach you how to dig a hole through the one metre deep ice and snow and there you will sit, hoping for the big one! It will get cold, but not to worry you will be supplied with a warm fur jacket, a hot lunch and enough vodka to keep you warm! An excellent and fun experience as long as you catch some fresh fish! No experience necessary. Return to the City, free time and overnight at your hotel. |
This is a popular and traditional weekend hobby for the local people.

After breakfast in your hotel, you will travel west into the Ural Mountains in an off-road minivan to a suitable area. You will meet the lively and excited Siberian 'Khaski' Husky dogs and their owner and set up the equipment. 6 to 8 dogs will pull your traditional sledge for around 7 km while you steer and control the fast huskies. Apart from the dog sledging, you will enjoy a local lunch, beautiful views of the forest and meet traditional people. It is likely you will visit the Europe-Asia obelisk at the end of the trip. After breakfast in your hotel, you will travel 15kms to the Ural Mountains and a designated cross-country skiing park. Cross-country skiing is an easy sport to learn but rigourous exercise and hard-work on your thighs if not done regularly. A trip to the Uktuss Mountains (the highest in the area) for an energetic day of cross-country skiing.

After breakfast in your hotel, you will travel 70kms to the Ezhovaya Mountain where you can hire your ski equipment (extra fee around €40) and a ski-pass (around €20). You will ski for around 3 hours along the tree lined pistes and your driver will prepare an energising lunch for you as well. Skiing is becoming increasingly popular in Russia and the Ezhovaya Ski area offers well structured pistes, excellent snow conditions and beautiful views.
